2008 Fall Conference Speakers

Candice Whitaker

Ms. Whitaker is the head coach of the University of Missouri - Kansas City women's basketball program.Whitaker led her team to The Summit League in 2008, after playing undefeated at home. Prior to her appointment at UMKC, Whitaker spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Valparaiso. Whitaker arrived at Valparaiso after playing at Texas Tech for two seasons. Before playing at Texas Tech, she played two years at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. Whitaker was named an honorable mention National Junior College Athletic Association all-American after she averaged a double-double in assists and points. A prolific playmaker, Whitaker finished her career with more than 830 assists in four years of collegiate basketball.

 

 

Richard Dedor

Mr. Dedor is President & CEO of Richard Dedor Communications. Dedor operates his marketing and speaking company, while performing a full-time job for the US Tennis Association. In 2002 when he was just 18, Dedor ran for mayor of Mason City. 'The Time is Now' was the slogan during the campaign, but the message hasn't faded. Richard is a four-time CIML All-Academic Athlete. As a player and as a coach, he was always pushing the players to work harder, think smarter and to be better teammates. Even before college, he was an all-state speaker and the recipient of the Iowa Bar Association's American Citizenship Medal. The goals to lead, achieve, and positively affect the world around him shape each day of his life.




 

2008 Fall Conference - General Session Speakers


Ms. Arnold serves as the Interim Director of KYLA and the Assistant Director of the Center for Civic Leadership (CCL). Throughout her tenure with FHSU she has served as the office manager for the Department of Leadership Studies/Center for Civic Leadership, and facilitated numerous times at KYLA programs.

Ms. Arnold has a BBA in accounting and is currently completing an MLS in Organizational Leadership, both from Fort Hays State University. She and her family reside in Hays, Kansas where she is actively involved with her children’s activities, Sigma Phi Gamma social and service sorority, and the Roosevelt Home and School Association.
