Chantelle Arnold
Interim Director, Kansas Youth Leadership Academy and
Assistant Director, Center for Civic Leadership

Ms. Arnold serves as the Interim Director of KYLA and the Assistant Director of the Center for Civic Leadership (CCL). Throughout her tenure with FHSU she has served as the office manager for the Department of Leadership Studies/Center for Civic Leadership, and facilitated numerous times at KYLA programs. Chantelle has also served on the Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference planning committee, coordinated the Ben Franklin Papers Project, served as the pilot project coordinator for the newly developed Kansas Corps initiative, and assisted with the successful completion of many other programs of the CCL.

Ms. Arnold has a BBA in accounting and is currently completing an MLS in Organizational Leadership, both from Fort Hays State University. She and her family reside in Hays, Kansas where she is actively involved with her children’s activities, Sigma Phi Gamma social and service sorority, and the Roosevelt Home and School Association.

 

 

 

Stacy Ward
Graduate Assistant, Kansas Youth Leadership Academy


Ms. Ward serves as the Graduate Assistant for the Kansas Youth Leadership Academy. Stacy is from Valley Center, Kansas and received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in May 2008 from FHSU. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.

Stacy has served as a KYLA camp counselor and facilitator, and has also worked as an intern for the Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference. She is passionate about leadership training and working with youth, as well as serving the community. Stacy is an officer of the Student Feminist Organization, and a Tigers in Service volunteer. She enjoys reading books, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

 

Janet Chopp
Student Assistant, Kansas Youth Leadership Academy


Ms. Chopp is attending Fort Hays State University as a freshman this year. She serves as the Student Assistant for KYLA and the Assistant Director of Tigers In Service. Janet is from Junction City, Kansas and is majoring in Accounting.

Janet was very active throughout her high school years. She participated in Take A Second, Make A Difference (TAS MAD), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Girls Athletic Leadership Skills (GALS). She served as the Assistant Editor and Business Manager of her high school yearbook. She also enjoyed playing volleyball and softball. Janet is very excited to continue her educational endeavors and participate in several new activities while attending Fort Hays State University.

 

Dr. Curtis Brungardt
Director, Center for Civic Leadership

Dr. Brungardt serves as the Director of the Center for Civic Leadership, which houses KYLA. Dr. Brungardt started the Department of Leadership Studies at Fort Hays State University in 1993, and later went on to create the Center for Civic Leadership in 2001. He has taught in the field of leadership studies for the past 13 years and was recently awarded the Omer G. Voss Distinguished Professorship under the Regent’s Faculty of Distinction Program. Over the past 12 years, he has presented and facilitated over 100 workshops throughout America. In addition, Dr. Brungardt has authored and co-authored three books and a dozen articles in the field of leadership studies. He received his B.A. in Political Studies and his M.S. in Political Science/International Relations from Fort Hays State University, and his Ph.D. in Curriculum, Instruction and Policy Studies from Kansas State University.
